Beauty and Disarray has been an idea that has been brewing for a number of years and I have decided to give it life. This blog is about my journey through the disarray created by bipolar disorder and anxiety. It's about entering the world of parenthood and finding joy where I least expected it. It's about learning how to hang on through the darkest days in order to find the beauty in life once again.

I have struggled for years about whether I should "out" myself, but I believe our society needs a better understanding of what mental illness really is. When people find out that I have a mental illness, they are often surprised because they have an image in their head of what mental illness is supposed to look like. However, in reality there isn't a certain type of person or a certain look. We are moms, dads, children, executives, lawyers, teachers and doctors and we shouldn't have to be defined by our diagnosis. Some of the greatest people in history have had the same struggles. So, I have decided it's time to share my story and contribute to ending the stigma.

Remember that no matter how hard life gets, you are never alone -- even if it feels that way a lot of the time.

Wishing you peace and happiness.
